I drive an 04 Tahoe 5.3l and for the last year or so the Service 4WD light comes on every month or so. This was always easily fixed by simply turning off the engine and restarting. About a month and a half ago the wife was driving it, made a stop and when she came out to leave she started it and it was in 4LO but she hadn't pushed the button, and she had to call me to walk her thru getting it back into 2HI. Took it to the dealer and of course the light was off by this time and no code showed up when they scanned it. The light hasn't been on since but I fear that something may happen while driving it. Any thoughts on what the problem may be?? Also I should add that it does have the Autotrac system and is pretty much stock....so far!

That code flashes every now and again.
Let us know what you find out, I'm curious to know why this is happening.

Yeah that's the same problem that I had. Took it to the dealer and they had it for 3 days, even let the mechanic drive it home. Of course, the light hasn't been on since. Normally this wouldn't bother me except for the whole thing about going into 4LO without pushing any buttons, and I did hear one horror story about this happening to someone while driving down the interstate. As you can imagine, total destruction of the trans and transfer case was the result.
