A few months ago I had a problem with the "Service 4WD" showing up on the console of my 2003 Yukon. I found the post regarding changing the four wheel drive select switch...

I saw that a number of people had luck with replacing this switch and the problem went away. I gave it a try but the problem persisted. I brought the vehicle to a dealer for service. Fortunately a very good friend of mine works for the dealership and he helped to make sure that I was treated fairly. The service ticket read as follows...
"90188 tech found CO327 encoder motor sensor tech removed motor"
"pulled apart to replace position sensor flushed T case"
The part was a "88962315" sensor
The transfercase flush was something they recommended since I have 90,000 miles on the clock.
The problem is gone and unless it's my imagination, the truck rides better.
There is a really good post on the "Full Size Chevy" board which shows pics of the sensor being replaced...

Hope this helps.
