It has come to my attention that the Shark Fin Antenna on my 2015 GMC Yukon is leaking.

I have already researched how to rectify this, but have a question.

We have had multiple instances where the Radio had left the chat so to speak, with it not working or intimately working how it wants to.

Prior to the leak being discovered, I noticed that the direction indicator on the dash was reading CAL, and the stock navigation (this was the last year before Android Auto/Apple Car Play became standard) system has no idea where it is.

Given these points, could the shark fin antenna have gone out?

I am not even sure how to trouble shoot it, other than checking things out for waster intrusion.

If it is bad, would it be worth the money to replace it or just get a block off plate to eliminate it.

Any thoughts or out looks would be greatly appreciated.

Do you use OnStar? It sounds like the module may have failed. If you use over the air radio it’ll effect that but if you use your phone via Bluetooth you should be good to seal it and move on. CarPlay mimics your phone screen but you can use BT for most things too.

Like Big Mama said, your VCIM has a fault somewhere. It has lost communication with onStar which is why the vehicle does not know where it is (lost directional and gps).

the shark fin leaking is a totally separate issue, and has nothing to do with the other issues described.
