Hi,

I'm a new member and I'm looking for some info on shocks . My 2003 Tahoe Z71 has 85,000 on it and seems to need new shocks. I have read on this site and others that the Bilsteins are a good choice. Do you agree? I have a stock suspension , no lift. Are these the right Bilsteins? ( Front F4-BE5-6500-H0 , Rear F4-BE5-E380-H0 ). I would appreciate your feedback. Want to order them today if I am on target.

Also, my rear bumper is rusting (but no rust through yet - Truck will be 6 years old in August) any suggestions on replacement?

Thanks for your time!

yup

Hey blueflame,

Thanks for the reply and the link. Yup, live up north and have it on the beach sometimes. I notice from reading the forums though that I am not the only one with this problem.

Any ideas on Shocks?

Look at both, one is for front and one for rear, directly off their site.

I really like the bisteins much better than the factory shocks that come on the z71. Look at www.shockwarehouse.com they have the bilsteins for about $70 apiece with free shipping.

I just picked up that exact set for my 03 Tahoe Z from shox.com for $260 shipped. Pretty good order to door time too.

I also have a rusty rear bumper. It sucks. My body guy says it's also rusted on the inside, so we're just ordering a new one. There seems to be a ~$300 upcharge for the painted bumper vs. the non-Z chrome one. I think we're going to go with the chrome one, have it blasted, paint it and undercoat the back side. Hopefully that will keep me rust free for a few years. I can't tell you how many rusty Z bumpers I see up here!

Yeah, so you did get the Bilstein BE5-6500-H0 & BE5-E380-H0 set right? The price sounds like its in line with those.

The bumper situation sucks - a definite weak spot on these trucks.

Check out summitracing.com, I got a full set (all 4) of Bilsteins for my 04 Z71 for about $260. Installed them and it feels like a whole different car, I drive on some VERY curvey mountain roads and it almost feels like it's on rails. I love that website, they have awsome pricing.
