Hello. :)

So in my continuing theme of trying to think up of unusual stuff to do ...

I picked up a set of esky delivery spares recently cause I needed a spare and the guy would only sell them as a set. I put the ones I don't need in the 'for sale' section but predictably no one really needs one as the only folks who don't already have one are hybrid owners and there aren't many of us around.

For reference they are the same set as these ones listed on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-OE...mdZViewItemQQitemZ170587029522#ht_2096wt_1182

They are 17x7.5 with 31mm os.

My original plan is that if I don't sell them I'd just store them and forget them ... but then with the recent earthquake and this hurricane bearing down on us a thought popped into my mind and thought I would run it by you to see if there's any merit to it.

Here are the questions?

1. Do you guys think these rims are structurally sound to run for long periods of time or only for short distances as a spare?

2. If they are okay to run, what would be the biggest A/T tire one could mount on them that would clear my stock height truck?

The idea here is to use them as an optional emergency wheel/tire combo where perhaps shiny 22s aren't the best option. Be it a heavy snowstorm, flooding, needing off road traction, etc. I can jack up the truck, quick swap, have serious grip, and not fubar my $$$ rims.

Again just thinking out lout here, but I already have the rims, so all this would cost me is a set of tires.

Is this something worth considering?
Are the rims roadworthy?
Am I missing something?

Thanks.

They are structurally sound and I've seen some use the as DD rims. If I was you and no one buys them off you I'd use them as winter rims. I'm not good with tire sizes but they'd work really well IMO....

So no one knows what tire max size I can safely put on a 17x7.5 without rubbing? :(

I am going by the factory fitment for 17's on LS models etc (17 x 7.5). They were 265/70 series and you should be able to go up to 285/65 safely.
