Sierra overhead console

Has anyone put the longer sierra console in their tahoo, yukon? If so what needs to be trimmed looking at the one in my dads 01 3500 it looks like the filler plate would pop out and the AC controls would fit. But he won't let me rip it out to see if it will work or not.
