The sensor's in the steering column, goes around the shaft, looks like a little black doughnut with a wiring harness coming off of it.

Almost like your driving in really strong wind or something, lol.

That describes my steering to a 'T'. I'm going to give the sensor a shot and see what happens. I just got alignment and control arms in May '10. It was suggested to try a steering box, but I'd rather spend a 100 trying than 400 trying.

I have that same problem with my steering, feels like there's play or also it will be soft then it gets hard back and forth. But i thought it was my alignment took it 3 weeks ago and nope.

Im not sure on the OBS Style trucks. However, If your trucks have a Intermediate shaft, replace it first, then if they have a Idler arm, replace that next. That should fix your problem. Or atleast get some of your slop out...

I have replaced everything including the rag joint, steering wheel speed sensor and gear box, never mind my whole front end. I still have play.
Going in for an alignment this weekend, hoping this will help out. That along with having my tires re-mounted.
Otherwise, I think the conclusion is, GM OBS' in particular have THE worst steering ever..........
