I have an 03 Tahoe and when I first start it up I hear a small motor spinning up, over and over about 3 times, seems located on drivers side under the hood, and then it stops. Any ideas as to what this is?

Newbie to this site, after having had 3 Tahoes over the years.

Could be your electric cooling fans. Check out you coolant levels to make sure all is OK there.

Do you have any check engine light on or ABS light? there isn't anything on the drivers side other than the ABS that would make a noise like that, other causes could the ac pump kicking on/off, try turning off the ac and see the noise goes away.

The Tahoe is in the shop for body work now so I will check out these options after it is returned.

thanks. Tom

Could also be the fuel pump. Common noise on these trucks. My 03 is pretty noisy, but more constant. And very clearly the pump priming if you go key on, engine off. The 06 is much less noticeable.

What kind of body work being done? How many miles are on this 03? What other Tahoes have you had? Your experience with the platform should (maybe already has?) serve you well. We don't all keep buying them for no reason!
