So I just finished nightshading my tails (pics after they are done and the truck is clean again) and I have about 5 thick coats of clear on them. What can i polish them with to get a really nice shine?

Wet sanding and some regular car polish won't hurt....

Nightshades is the cheaper alternative to the conventional way of doing them.. From what I've been told and seen you really cant get the nightshades product to stand out.. Could try though..

What's the "conventional" way of doing 'em?

(Also, does "Chistoso" translate to "joker?" Trying to recall some of my spanish... Seems that "chiste" was "joke.")

I used Nightshades on my CTS and they came out looking like the lens was molded that color. I sprayed on a couple light coats, wetsanding with 1500 grit between each coat, with a total of about 6-7 coats. On the final coat, I wetsanded with 1500, then 2000 grit, then used 3M polishing compound with my buffer and they look really nice. they came out so good, my brothers thought I bought a new set of tinted lens.
Hit it with a good polishing compound, buff it with a clean rag, then throw on a coat of good wax after a couple days. Allow the paint time to cure before you apply the wax.

Ya that sounds like almost how I did it. I used a 2000 grit sandpaper, wetsanding between coats. once i got the darkness I wanted, the clear coat went on. 5 coats of clear, the last 2 layers pretty thick... I just need to polish them now - I can use regular car polish right? or do i need the stuff for headlights? The whole process took 3 days with dry times between layers. This 'after' pic is still before the last couple clear coats. and the truck is filthy... Now that the sun is shining again better pics to follow.

I added a few drops of black paint to the PPG clear and sprayed them. Didn't need to sand or buff. Just have to regulate the coats, I got spray happy and gave them too many coats and they came out a bit too dark for my taste but the light still shined thru really well. They 've been sold though..

BTW, "chistoso" means "Joker" in spanish...:Handshake:
