so whats the difference between a BB tune and a hand held for a 96

tuner? before i get all the "it's a custom tune" responses, i've got a 96 so i'm told that my BB tune would be the more generic standard tune. from the questions i got about how i'd like it tuned, it sounds much like the questions i'd answer with a hand held tuner. so i'm curious, what IS the difference? i know price is a major consideration when the hand helds are roughly 400 and the BB is 200....but a used one can be found on ebay or CL for about $200.

bump. i still dont have an answer. if i'm not getting the EFILive tune, it looks like a regular generic...what size are your tires? how firm to you want your shifting? etc etc type tune. soooo....what IS the difference between that and a hand held?

I havent messed with mine that much because its new. I have the shifting set to superchips value. It has other options that I have never tried. I am currently running 35" toyos on an 18" rim. I just wanted to let you know what I am running on mine and I am happy with it. Put it on wifes truck for a day and she noticed th difference so i had to buy a second one.

that's what i like about a handheld, i'd be able to change it to suit what i'm doing pretty much on the fly. don't get me wrong, if i had a vehicle that was able to accept an EFILive tune, there would be no question about it.

yeah the more i look into this, the more it looks like they accomplish the same thing. amazon has the flashpaq for $250 with free shipping. that's only $50 more than the BB tune and i'll be able to make changes on the fly from performance to fuel economy, tire size changes, speedo recalibration, shift points and get a device to check for and clear codes. i wont have to send off my pcm to get it done or for any changes after the fact. i'll also be able to sell if later on down the line if i need to. so far i don't see any advantages that BB has over the flashpaq and no one seems to be able to point any out. hmmm....

Justin at Blackbear can tune sooo much more then a handheld can...he can fine tune your transmission for better shifting/trans life, and the main part of the tune is removing the torque management, which is what limits the power mostly. Justin can tune anything you ask him to do..sure alot of them are the same as a handheld, but justin can go deeper into the timing tables to get you every bit of power thats there...the transmission tuning along is worth it..ive driven with a handheld and a blackbear tune, and its no contest..its not only shift points being changed, its changing converter lockup, line pressure from the trans etc..stuff a handheld cant do.

he sends you a new pcm, so you just swap them and mail your old one back..so there is no down time..if you need anything tweaked you just email him and hell take care of it and send you another pcm...very simple..

so all that can be done without the EFILive tune? because the questions he sent me were just about the same as the questions asked by a handheld tuner. without getting it done through EFILive, isn't it just pretty much a generic tune much like the handhelds? you have a newer truck, your tune can be customized more because of it. you will see more benefits than i will...as far as i understand anyways.
