About once a week when I go to start my car for the first time during the day, I hear what sounds like the engine fan scraping the shroud for 1 second right after I crank it over then it goes away. This happens only occassionally and I have looked in the shroud area and it doesn't look like the fan is even coming close. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

Well is there any way to alleviate the problem a bit? The first time I heard it, I thought I left a tool right on the fan and it fell into it. Sounds horrible.

Maybe its not as bad as I make it out to be. I'm just gonna deal with it. Its not repeatable so I'm not gonna try to take it to someone who will probably just see me start the car over and over while saying "I swear it makes a noise when I start it"

Buy a coupls small cans of gunk cleaner for the oil that specifically says it has detergents, I use 2 cans (some of the cans even say for bigger engines use 2). Take it to get the oil changed and have them put em in with the oil - making sure they note the correct volume of oil to put in so you don't OVERfill your engine.

Then run a can of seafoam in the next oil change, and do that again....and again. Every 3k miles.

See if you have eliminated that piston slap at all. Mine got worse before it went away.

If it's what I think you're talking about, I have the same issue. It only happens when you haven't started it in a while. It sounds like a big gush of air kinda?? I have no clue what it is either myself. Before I bought my current Tahoe I test drove a different one that did the same thing.

Exactly. It is only when it has sat for 2-3 days and it does it the first start and then no more.

Not gonna lie to you guys, I appear to have gotten rid of my slap just by switching to Pennzoil Ultra last oil change. I was shocked, but sure enough it went away within a few trips.
Luckily I don't drive a whole lot, so I don't worry about the extra few bucks a jug, but if the slap stays away using it, I'll be more than happy.
