beware of your spare tire key locks... I stuck my ignition key into mine and it broke my only key to my truck. $50 to get a new one made off the VIN.

To say the least I had to use a sawzall and cut the lock off to get to my spare...

took the spare tire off of the spare rim and now I have winter wheels!
(only had to buy 3 new wrangler ats's, I know, im cheap)

Sorry to hear about your dilemma . I use my spare lock quite frequently, as I check the spare regularly to make sure it is in good shape in case it will be needed.

I NEVER had an issue with my lock. Wonder if it is different from an NBS to an NNBS truck.

And another valuable lesson learned, right? DON'T wait until you DESPERATELY need a spare key and will have to run to the dealer and pay 50 Bucks for it. My spare key came from the ACE hardware store for $4.50. Only difference, NO "GMC" engraved on top of the key.

I dunno, my hybrid doesn't have a spare.

I was planning to learn the process when I get the Denali delivered.

They don't have a spare for weight saving/fuel efficiency reasons, a lot of other GM vehicles don't have a spare for the same reasons or if they have GM performance dual exhaust. They come with an emergency tire repair/inflation kit stored where the jack is stored.
