Hello, total stereo noob here. I'm getting distortion from the driver side door speaker(s)? If I use the fader/balance controls to remove the front left speakers, distortion goes away. I cannot tell if it's the tweeter or the bigger one in the door, as i think I still hear distortion all the time playing with the bass/treble. Am I correct in assuming that it's the speaker and not the amp? I figure an amp issue would cause distortion to all channels? I thought You guys could save me some time removing panels etc (which I've never done either). It's an 02 yuk 9 speaker stereo system (not Denali so I'm pretty sure not Bose system). Thanks for any info!

if you had bose it would say it right there on the door speaker.. they're pretty proud of their stuff and won't miss an opportunity to stick a label on something.

Non after market

Agreed.. More than likely a blown speaker. Should be a 6 1/2 size driver. Would replace (as a pair).

Thanks for the info. I took the door panel off and the speaker "looks" fine. It's in that funky plastic bracket so I think that means it's a 5.25 inch speaker (wasn't smart enough to actually find a ruler). So now I find a cheap speaker and see if it works. I don't feel like taking off the passenger side panel and swapping speakers to test, as the more I remove these panels, the more I feel I might break something. The driver side panel now is more loose than before I took it apart:emotions122:

If its all the factory stuff I would say its more than likely a blown speaker. Its pretty rare to have factory amp problems although it does happen. Its pretty hard to break anything on these doors so don't be to afraid. It should be a 6.5 with separate tweeter, I can't say I've ever seen one with a 5 1/4. If it is an amplified system you can just replace the speaker but its better to bypass the factory amp and hardwire the system. The factory amp wants to see a 2 ohm load and most aftermarket speakers are either 3 or 4 ohm. You will need to do a head unit or aftermarket amp to do this. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

Hey Thanks! The factory speaker is unlabeled except made in Mexico, and it's 4 ohms. We'll see what it sounds like when I get time next week to take it apart again and put in another.
