A little back story, I moved to our local lake in July and to get there I have to drive on Highway 280 to get there which has a speed limit of 65. I have always set the cruise control on 73 when I travel this highway. Well 8 months go by and while that happens I pass MANY police officers going at this set 73.

Two days ago, I'm coming back from town and I have my cruise control set on 73 like I always do. I pass by a State Trooper going this speed and about a mile down the road I see the flashing blue lights in my rear view mirror. I just though to myself "What did I do?". I pull over and the Officer and myself run through the drill (I had no idea I was speeding) He came back to my window and unfortunately handed me a ticket. Without even looking at the ticket, I ask the officer how fast he clocked me at. He said he clocked me at 78 mph!!!

Apparently, my tires caused a bigger speedometer decrease than I had thought. So now I'm having to pay a $200 ticket and get my speedometer re-calibrated.

This is a PSA to all lowered friends. I would get your speedometer checked. You may be surprised!

If anyone has gotten into the same situation and has already re-calibrated their speedometer, do you remember how much it cost?

There are calculators online (I think Tirerack has one) to see how different size tire diameters will affect your speedo. If you are considering getting a tune, the tuner can calibrate your speedo.

GPS or use an android phone put in the GPS app to see proper speed.

I found an iPhone app that does just that. I had to use it the day after my ticket to get my speeds correct again compared to my speedometer.

I'm slowing getting parts together for a 6.0, but that still going to be until the end of the year until I can actually install it. I might just have to deal with it and be more cautious.
