I have a 2000 Hoe and after installing 33" tires and 4.56 gears the speedometer is acting weird. It seems the faster I go the faster the gauge is off. Example: 25mph=30 on gauge, 35mph=45on gauge. I have had a Banks programmer and was unable to correct it with it and now I have a Blackbear ECM and still same problem. What I don't understand is why the difference gets greater as the speed increases.

If your speedo is off from tire size or gears, it is off by the percentage of the difference. This means that the number will grow with the speed.

To simplify... if your tires are 20% larger the speed will be off by 20%. 20% of 25mph is less than 20% of 50mph. Your milage on the odometer will also be off the same amount and thus calculating milage will be affected too.

My speedo is dead on at 35. But at 65 I'm really doing 70. And at 80 it's like 88-90.

Blackbear was unable to correct mine as well. Something about the traction control system.

Is there anyway to remove the traction control to fix the speedometer?

I can't say that would be worth doing... just GPS where your speedo is right and know it in your head lol

I have looked at the RPO code list and don't believe I have traction control. I am hoping to pick a chevy dealership tech's brain this week and figure out some sort of fix. I don't mind having the speedo off, but when it doesn't stay consistent. That I can't have.

Again, it's a percentage, so it will never be consistent. Easy way to tell is if you have a traction control Burton on the dash where the airbag switch used to be next to the ac controls. If you have a pocket then you shouldn't have it.

However I moved my button to the glove box, and put a pocket in.

Well after some research and talking with BB they think they will be able to reprogram my ecm to make the speedo work. Will find out when it gets reprogrammed.

Big thanks to the guys a BlackBear! I put the reprogrammed PCM in and now my speedometer is off only 1mph (according to my GPS). If anyone has the same problem and has a BB PCM, give them an email.

Lucky you... I'm gonna try to talk with them next time they are in town and see if there's anything he can do. Maybe he has figured out a way around my tc system since he tuned mine
