Drove about 600 miles this weekend and right towards the end I had 2 times when the engine sputtered or stuttered. Both times I was trying to excelerate from about 60 to 65. Seemed the fuel was intermittent. I stopped both times turned the truck off and it was fine. All fluids are good and no engine warnings. Any ideas? Fuel pump, injectors, spark plugs, bad gas? Any info would be great! Have to drive about the same this next weekend. Just had my oil changed if that matters. Thanks guys!

I'd get your fuel pressure tested, might be a failing fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter!

I will have to cal on that, thanks! Didn't know they could test the pressure on it. Do you think it would be ok to drive on if I can't get it fixed by thursday night?

So I took the truck in today and they pulled all the codes and checked it out. They stated that I was having these issues because of a faulty Throttle Position Sensor and a faulty EGR valve. They are replacing both for around 700 bucks. They felt that it was not the fuel pump. Hope they are right!

that being said, fuel filters should be changed out at least every other time that you change your oil. as for $700 for putting that stuff on, good god man do it yourself!

I agree if you can do it your self save the $400 in labor and put it toward the gas!!

What are the steps to change a fuel filter?

super simple
open the gas cap to release some extra pressure
take the 2 bolts out of the bracket
loosen the filter, i personally do out>in (it will leak a lil bit, have some shop towels or something)
connect the new filter In>Out
connect the bracket
put the gas cap back on
Prime the filter 2-3x and start her up (should take 15minutes max if you arent mechanically inclined, if you are 5-10minutes max)
i change mine every 12-15k miles

now i've had the same issue a few times with my truck... i was thinking the knock sensor or egr valve.

just changed the fuel pump and have 55-58psi
new fuel filter
synthetic 5-30
spectra intake
new pcv valve
seafoam every 3 oil changes

the truck runs great but does the same thing on the highway as yours at times... im thinking its the knock sensor though i have no codes... i'ma change the egr valve first, then the knock sensor... or just say fu*k it and toss the 6.0 in my hoe but with that money i can put the downpayment on my new whip.

Next time, before you have a shop pull codes.. take it to an AutoZone or Oreilly's (or whatever auto parts place you have) and have them pull the codes first. They'll print out whatever they find, and leave it up to you to decide what to do with it. They really don't have any reason to lie to you other than to sell you parts, and my experiences with them have been pretty good with that so far. Hell, yesterday I saw an AutoZone employee with a Chilton's manual out showing a guy where a part was.. and how to replace it.

IMO, shops can "say" they pulled codes and tell you whatever they want. And if the techs working there aren't good at troubleshooting, they're just going to start replacing parts until the problem goes away. I found this out the hard way 10 years ago, which is why unless it's on fire, or spewing gas outta the top of the fuc#ing engine I do not take it to a shop. I research (like here on TYF), Google search, and I try to fix it myself.

Mechanically enclined or not, you'll do well to train yourself to do the basics.

Good Luck

Well got it fixed according to the shop. So far so good. About halfway through my trip so far this weekend. I do need to start doing these things my self. It sucks living in an apartment though.

I thought about what you said after the fact Bryan! I always think shops are trying to screw me over but I needed the truck the next day for my long weekend drive. Still throwing coded though so I might be stopping at Orielys soon. No sputtering problems though so far
