So I have an 07 LTZ and when I start it up in the morning after sitting all night I get a squeaking type noise from the engine. After a couple of minutes though it will go away. I was thinking it would be a idler pulley or tensioner but would it go away after a few minutes or be constant if it were one of those? Any chance it could be from the actual crank from the engine? Thanks

Its the belt tensioner. Have it fixed because if it takes s crap when you are on a trip you will be in a situation.

Does the fact that it quits after its warm change anything? Does the tensioner have to be torque tighten?

I replaced the tensioner but the squeak/chirp is still there. I noticed a little sound coming from the alternator when I manually turned it by hand with the belt off. Should there be some sound from the alternator?

I guess my next steps will be idler pully and the A/C tensioner. I heard some people having similar issues on cars and it turned out be the harmonic balancer. I don't know much about that but it seems like a lot trouble to replace.

Just to let everyone know I replaced both belts with Gatorback belts and the squeaking has went away. Its only been one day but sounds good so far.

I bought my SUV new as a left over and it did the same thing. The dealer replaced the belt and that fixed it. My guess it the car sat on the lot for so long the pulleys got some rust on the surface of them and it maybe did something to the belt, but who knows. That was a year and a half ago and still no problem.
