Hey Sunlit. What do you think about changing out the whole rear axel assembly while doing a disc brake conversion. I've noticed a few conversions online. The only reason I ask is because I have priced out a 4 piston wilwood conversion for 900. I have seen these axel conversions for around 1100. Just wondering if you know of any that already have the disc brake conversion already on the axel conversion?

Just got the brakes in the mail the other day. I'm gonna have them put on tomorrow. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Also, Sunlit, the drums aren't weighted at all. Is this a good or bad thing?

I'm the only one that drives it...

Got the rear brakes put on and the squealing is gone, there seems to be no vibration when I get on the brakes, everything seems normal; for now. I don't think the brakes have ever been changed from the factory and it's got about 77,000 miles on it... At least I have one thing knocked off a long list of things that needs to be done with her.

unknown at this time.
shorty, the weakest point n the brakes is usually the vacuum booster because of the lack of getting quick action out of it. hydroboosting is the first preferred option after quality drums/rotors/linings/proper adjustments imo then if you want another 5-10%increase then upgrade front and rear hydraulics.

jbuck, i don't think i have seen seen a drum yet that has not a balance weight on them. to many to remember really if you had them turned yet what did the cutting sound like? perhaps the maker has come up with a new balancing method.

No, I haven't had them turned. I'm guessing the shop here on base just put them on. And I don't think they have the capability to turn my size of drums and rotors, they normally work on Japanese cars where everything is half the size of American vehicles. We call the cars over here coke cans or toasters cuz they are so small and would be totaled in a minor accident lol.
Nonetheless, the squeal is gone but I did notice that I have to apply more pressure on the brakes than before. My brake fluid level is good too.

No I have to figure out why she shakes whenever I get above 60 mph. I'm thinking it's something with the front suspension

Lol. Hands. But the whole truck will shake too. I was looking at the front end when I changed my oil and the ball joints looked fine although they were covered with grease from the cv boots that are split open.... That's next on my list to change.

Update on the brake job. I've been driving around and they are smooth! I have had no issues with them at all. She seems to stop a lot better too.
