Hey all, new to the forum, to owning a sweet 05 SLT, and to auto mechanics period. This is the first vehicle that I have owned that I actually enjoy taking me from A to B so I want to learn to take care of it! Here is the deal. The engine is spotless and the belts appear new. I know (or think I know) that there are two belts, the serpentine and the A/C. I am pretty sure that the serpentine belt is the culprit because the squeck speeds up when I rev the engine. In park it lets out 4-5 very quick squecks every 3.5 seconds. Its like clock work. I just got the haynes manual on the way home from work and am going to study it, but also wanted to consult the experts in ya'll. Thoughts, comments, and snide remarks are all welcome. Thanks

1) Welcome!
2) Both belts increase in speed with RPMs
3) If the belts are new, the culprit is most likely either one of the belt tensioners (one for each belt) or the idler pulley for the serp belt. All three of these items are easy to replace as are the belts.

A couple of notes...you have to remove the serp belt to remove the AC belt. You can run the engine without the AC belt to narrow down your noise. If you are going to remove the belts anyways to replace a tensioner or idler pulley, I would just replace them both since you really don't know how old they are.

Edit: since you might ask, I'll just give you the quick and dirty now. To remove the serp belt, release tension on tensioner using 15mm (IIRC) socket and slide belt off of alternator. Once it slips off, you can let the tensioner move back and remove socket. On the AC belt, the tensioner has a square opening in the front that a 3/8 ratchet (without socket) will fit into. Release tension and remove belt from AC compressor pulley. I have tranny lines underneath the tensioner that run from the tranny to the radiator, so if you have these, be careful, as the tensioner can be turned into them.

To reinstall, reverse order...
