2003 GMC Yukon has had squishy brakes FOREVER. There is a "Wooshing" noise when depressing pedal. When the car is off the brake pedal is very firm. I checked pads, nd they were totally fine. Removed and bench bled master cylinder, and the problem persisted. I then bled brakes all around and they were still squishy!

I finally took it into Meineke today and they said I need to replace brake booster and master cylinder. I'm thinking it might just be the brake booster, since it only happens when the car is on and because the master cylinder isn't leaking and bench bled fine.

Does anyone have any links to just replacing the brake booster? I have lots of time but little money, so I think this is the best way to tackle the problem!

Thanks

These trucks have a hard time removing air trapped in the abs unit. If you know anyone with a tech 2 or snapon scanner, there is an automated bleed feature that would push out all the trapped air in the system. I say do that 1st. Replacing the master may not resolve your problem.

SOLVED: So as a last ditch effort I took the truck over to a wet grassy area and slammed on the brakes about 5 times and engage the abs. Seems to have done the trick! No more Brake Error Message and the brakes seem a lot stiffer! Still a little "Wooshing" sound when I press the brake, but all in all a lot firmer!

Apparently air can get trapped inside the ABS module if you dont bleed the brakes correctly. The method above is how you can get the air out.

Nice, did you have to rebleed after playing in the grass?
