Good morning guys and girls
Well, I got it dug out of the snow. Charged the batt, checked the fluids, started up and drove for a week. Running okay.

Starter quit. Key to START gets a click, lights dim only a bit, no crank. Several repeated key to START eventually gets a crank and start. Crank speed is normal. Cables and connections not corroded nor loose. So I'm thinking solenoid not making contact with main starter windings. Plan is to replace the starter/solenoid.

In the past I've usually bought NAPA's 2.0kw geared starter. Dad and I were building up ZZ3's for Airboats - this one was/is available locally and does a good job spinning the high compression engines. Current price is $235. This time I've got a few days to order one in. And I won't mind saving $50 - $100. However, reliability is still king.

I'll get a geared starter - just cause that is what I am familiar with, they are light, easy to handle while crawled under, and seem reliable (my limited knowledge). I see Bosch, Delco, Remy, and a couple of others (Amazon, RockAuto)

Q: Anybody have any brand preference - with known reliability?

No pictures yet. I have some on my *&%^%$% new phone, but I can't get the computer to recognize the phone and download. Says I need a new driver - sigh, maybe tomorrow (or next week).
