I have a 2002 Tahoe Z71, 5.3L Flex Fuel capable.
Engine stalled several times after running rough at idle over a 1 week period.
Otherwise was running fine. I had the in-line Fuel Filter replaced by a friend.
After filter replacement, the engine will not start.

I cannot hear the fuel pump prime when the key is turned on. I was told by "Chevy Mechanic" that the fuel pump was bad. I had the fuel pump replaced and still have the same problem.

Any suggestions??

Any codes/CEL?

Test the fuel pressure by "renting" a gauge at AutoZone or another parts store. It is entirely possible the new fuel pump is bad, or maybe your friend installed the fuel filter incorrectly. Doesn't make any sense that a fuel filter replacement would take your truck from running to not running, unless it was botched.

When these pumps are replaced the filter should always be replaced at the same time, unless is fairly new and the relay should be replaced.

The filter will only go on one way. (One end is push-on and one is screw-on)

Relay was replaced.

Filter was disconnected and no fuel being pumped.

Haven't checked fuel pressure because fuel was not being pumped from tank.

I know that you stated you replaced the relay but have you tested for power before replacement? Checked the fuse?

I have seen many fuel pumps start drawing to much and pop the fuse.

Should be able to check that very quick and if there is power at the fuse then to the relay and from there go directly to the top of the tank. I would be willing to bet you will find something along the way.

Sorry, not trying to bump this thread, but does an '04 Yukon still have a fuel filter.?

I think it does NOT, but would like this confirmed.

Thanks.

The answer is yes it does but it may no longer have one along the frame under the vehicle. It may be only located in the tank. Take your 8th digit of the VIN and look at Rock Auto Parts and use that engine I.D. # and see what they offer and then you can check inline to see you see the same thing. If not then the filter is likely only in the tank.
