Ive drove my partners avalanche and same thing, is it just the nbs tahoes/avalance/etc....? I know on other vehicles there is a set screw on the power steering gear box (my 94 caprice had the same free play <--is it a chevy thing?). If it just mine id like a heads up, i hate when i go into a inclined turn and the wheel "drops" that away.....

Are you talking about the wheel play when you turn left to right?
Check the steering knuckle under the hood. mine had play and that's what caused it.

Check the Itermediate Shaft, then the Idler Arm.

It's either one of these. The idler arms are commong to go bad after so many miles on these trucks. If that doesn't do then the intermediate shaft has to be replaced.
