My girlfriends 2000 5.3 tahoe has an issue with the throttle sticking off idle. The problem was fixed years ago at the dealer but now it is back. I'm sure it is in the throttle shaft someware. This must have happened to some of you and I just want to know if a little W-D will do the trick or is it much more than that. You notice it when you take off from a stop sign it is very suttle but you can feel it as you press down on the gas pedal. I moved the throttle with my hand under the hood and you can feel it their too. Are there bushings in the throttle shaft that are hanging up or that need to be lubed?? Why are there TWO cables for the Throttle, what does the second one do, is it some kind of return cable? Thanks for any info.

First get a can of throttle body cleaner and clean the throttle cables and connectors. Then clean the throttle body using a small brush (tooth brush) works great. After you think its clean then clean it again.

I've had 2 5.3's that the throttle was sticking closed. If you take the intake tube off the throttle body you can probably see a buildup of gunk where the throttle plate meets the throttle body. I just sprayed cleaner into the throttle body and they worked just fine after.

I took off the air tube, it was really hard to pull off. I saw the build-up of ''Gunk'' you mentioned and sprayed it over and over wiping it away with paper towels. It started hard and ran rough for a bit but seems fine now and no more Sticky. Thanks.
