So I am wondering about the intended use of the sections of the center console insert/cup holder in my 2003 Yukon XL, other than the 2 cup holders....

AND I'm going to be looking for replacements to either jus tthe insert or maybe the whole console that add "better" cup holders and maybe some other useful space - utilitarian rather than luxury or bling.... any suggestions would be appreciated.

It is not that I don't like it (in fact I don't even have the truck yet... I am picking it up tomorrow!)... I am wondering about the intent of the odd shaped spaces.

As far as "upgrading" it I might want to use that space for other "stuff", maybe...

The only replacement is to either build a new console or go with a denali console. But nothing is going to interchange with that. I stick my phone and wallet on the large hole. Lighter and pens in the smaller slot.

Were those other sections designed for something specific?

Not that I am aware of. Just 2 different sized cubby holes to hold different sized items. Is there something specific you are wanting to put there?

The large hold on the left holds my cigs and my phone pretty well along with whatever else might wind up there. Has anyone seen a cup holder that fits inside of the cup holder that could act like a spacer? Like at a parts store or something like that. Mine is still in great shape (the rubber fingers) but 20oz bottles or .5 liter water bottles tip over along with drink cups from fast food restaurants. It seems the only thing that fits are 1liter bottles of soda. I was thinking about maybe finding away to cut the bottom off and put a section of plastic or fiberglass to make it a few inches deeper so I'd quit slinging soda cups onto the floor (glad I have weathertech floor mats). I've removed it and I know there's about 6 inches of unused space below it.

Excellent info! Plenty of space to design something cool!
