I'm looking to add a little thump to my Tahoe. I have a 10 inch bazooka that was in my Tacoma truck but it's just not getting it done in the much bigger Tahoe. The rest of my sound system is stock .What kind of sub woofer set up sounds good in our trucks. I listen to mostly rock and classic rock but occasionally listen to a little bit of just about anything. I want the set up to cater to rock music. I want to feel the kick drum in my chest. I'm not looking to wake up the neighbors, but I need more than that bazooka. There is all kinds of stuff on craigslist that seems pretty cheap, I think this is the way I want to go, not looking to spend a Ton of dough on this. 10? 12? Single? Dual? Ported? Non-ported? Crossover? These are the kinds of questions I have, I want to know what to keep an eye out for. Any input would be appreciated :Rock on:

hey noone can ever be happy with just one
you must always have at least two 12s or the one 12 will get lonely
putting car stereo equipment in your vehicle can become addicting eventually 2 12s wont be enough so you get 4 12s like i did
now im trying to figure out how to mount 4 more 6.5" speakers

JL 12W6 or 12W7 and you'll only need one. I had one 12W7 in a sealed box in my Tahoe, it was beyond enough and I still had a lot of cargo space.
If your keeping the rest stock a 10W6 with a JL XD600/1 or 10W7 with a JL HD750/1 might be just right for you.

I usually roll with 2 15" Fosgate T2s in a 10 cu.ft. box and that will rattle your teeth. But now I have 2 12" Alpine Type R's is a basic ported box with a Fosgate P1000.1 and have been listening to rock lately and it has just the right amount of kick imo.

So I say go with 2 quality 12" subs in a ported box.

A decent 10inch sub with good power will go well with the stock system. I'm running a Polk MM wired to 2ohms with 500watt Alpine amp. Hits pretty hard inside the truck but I wont be heard from down the street.

I'm brand new here too and just getting ready to start gathering equipment for my Tahoe - but I'm not new to car stereo... I've had it all from huge SPL systems to high end SQ competition equipment... now I'm all about great all around sound. I'm putting a single 10" Kenwood Excelon slim sub in a pre-fab enclosure in the front console and then 3 more 10's in the back (behind the third row seat)...

That sounds like a SICK setup. You gotta do a build thread on this!

Also agree. I have on Alpine Type R 10" in a sealed enclosure. I've actually transferred it from car to car and have had it 12 years now with the same amp, no issues. I'd like a 12" though since the 10 doesn't really handle the lows too well.
