I got my 03 z71 a few months ago with 97k miles on. Everything up until tonight has worked just fine. I was leaving the store and I got a Service 4WD message and the tach 0 rpm unless I really get on it, then it jumps to 2000.

I pulled the 4wd fuse and it wasn't burnt so I popped it back in and now 4WD switch lights are back, no message after 5 starts. The tach however is still not right. From searching and reading it seems likely to be a stepper motor. I have no problem soldering in a replacement, but I wanted to get opinions on how the two issues might be connected before I go tearing stuff apart.

Edit: Just went back out and started it to see if anything changed. Damn thing works.... kind of. The tach needle doesn't really move as smoothly as I remember but it does register RPM correctly. 4WD still works.

I guess I'll watch it over the next few day.
