Tahoe 2007 MR Shocks

I have a 2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ. I recently had the upper ball joints replaced and at that time I was told that my struts were leaking. The shop said they are MR shocks and to replace them it is $1200 per axel. There is an option of replacing with passive shocks but that could pose problems.

Has anyone had to replace their shocks on the tahoe and what did they do? Is the information I am getting correct?

Yeah they are not cheap. You can get rebuilt "AutoRide" shocks or custom passive shocks from this place:

They only list through 2006 though, but I think they are the same parts.

I`ve got the same problem with my 07 LTZ autoride shock system. 60 K miles. These have got to be crap shocks. I`ve never heard of shock struts leaking after 60k miles. I think GM set us up for a very expensive fix on purpose. I was told 1200at the dealer for both fronts. I found a GM dealership that sells the OEM`s for 370.00 a piece. Strutmasters has a kit to go passive and override the computer, as to not throw codes. I called Arnott and they only go to 06 models. I can`t see what could be different, but it would be very expensive to find out. Please keep us posted on options for this problem.

60k huh? That sucks, but not really a huge surprise. I've found most cars to be good until 60-80k but if you really want to retain the like new ride 60k is about it. I only got 49k out of my M3 shocks. My dad has 180k on his Lincoln LS shocks that he just replaced but the car has rode like cr@p for years.

It also has a lot to do with how you drive. If you're constantly hitting pot holes they aren't going to last as long.

I hope mine last longer than 60k because that's only in about a year.

The magna ride shocks were manufactured to last at least 100k, I worked with a lot of Engineers that manufactured those shocks at Delphi. Those are suppose to be the Cadillac of shocks, I am surprised they failed at 60k.

Thanks for the replies. I can`t feel any difference in the smooth ride. When I went in for my last tire rotation, I was shown the signs of oily gunk at the shock bases. Thats how I knew they were leaking. I wonder if some leakage like that is normal? 400 bucks is alot to pay before you really have too. I degreased both shocks and washed them down real good. I`ve been driving around for about 2 weeks and will be taking a good look again to see if they are wet or gunked up again. Thats when I will make my decision to replace.

I took our Yukon XL in and was told that my left front shock needed replaced. About $400 for the shock, $150 for a seat/bushing and something else for about $50. Approximately $850 with labor. WTF the car only has 60k.

Damn 850 just for one side that sucks. But IMO gm really needs to step up with how they do their shocks. I have an 05 buick park ave it was at 58k when I had to replace both rear shocks, tie rods, wheel bearings and compressor which failed when my shocks failed. I guess cuz it was running most of the time
