Hi folks,

I've found a Tahoe -99 that I can get for a good price.
It's located about 200 km from home and the issue is that it has lost three teeth from the flex plate.

Since I'm quite busy at the moment I don't have time to replace the flex plate at the location the car is located at the moment. But, I don't want to miss this chance either.

So, do you think it's possible to turn the engine by hand so it get past the broken teeth and then start it in one revolution?

Since I'm located in Sweden our truck aren't allowed to pull very heavy trailers so to get it home in another way is to hire someone with a semi and it might get rather expensive.

Regards
Magnus

it's possible, I have done it before. It sometimes take a few tries to get it to start. you might get lucky and get it past the bad teeth, and it will crank right up. Don't let off the starter once you get it cranking.

That's some good news :)

If I stand in front of the car, in which direction should I turn the engine?
Do you know what size the bult/nut is to turn the engine?

unknown at this time.
you can turn it by hand as well with the belt on and gripping the crank pulley on right and the belt between the tensioner and another pulley or just grab the crank pulley entirely.

Thanks guys.
Is the starter mounted with any special bolts or anything? Just so I don't get there with some tool missing.

Hi again.

Tomorrow I will take a look at the car.
I hope it's as good as I've been told and that it will fire up.
The price is good if the condition is I what I expect.

To replace the flex plate do I have to drop the tranny completly or is the mounts enough?
How about the TC? I've never done anything on a 4x4 but
several G20s.

Any other advice?

Yes the starter has special bolts, they aren't normal off the shelf hardware store items.

You could probably disconnect the drive shaft and unbolt the transmission crossmember from the frame and slide that whole assembly back enough to get in there and get the flexplate out. I've done it on cars before.

I got the car.
Asked price was ~4200 euro and I payed ~2300.
And I was able to start it so I could drive home.

Retorq: That's how I thought I would do. Thanks for confirmation!
