whats goin' on guys...sad news she died on me today and wouldn't keep the idle it was ridiculous every time i would start and put it into drive it would sputter and die. I had JUST gotten it back from the shop for some minor fixes and i noticed when i drove out that i heard a distinct whistle in the cabin and it kinda worried me..could this have anything to do with the sputtering and dying of the engine?

Just to let you guys know i had my mass flow sensor replaced from the same problem and a brand new battery and its doing this again...what could it be??

Oh that sucks. So it dries only when you put it gear? Does it stay running if you hold the pedal down a bit to rev it? I wonder if the RPS is no good and its allowing the idle to drop to lows when in gear.

What were the "minor fixes" the shop did? Later you say the Mass Air and the battery, but I can't tell if that was at an earlier time or this last visit from the shop? Fuel pumps going out on these trucks is common, but I would diagnose with a fuel pressure gauge, and not just start replacing the common items people suggest.

As far as the whistle in the cabin goes...make sure your windows are all the way up. It just happened to me the other day...heard a very annoying whistle and I thought something was wrong with the fan inside the vehicle. Every time I changed the fan speed, I was able to get it to go away for a little bit.

Turns out that the difference in pressure is what stopped the whistle for that small second. I was relieved to find out that my pass side window was just barely cracked. Rolled it up and the whistle went away.

Number 1, check to make sure all of your hoses and air intake are sealed so no unfiltered air is getting into the engine.

2, Go back to where the work was done.

it keeps the rev when ever i hold the pedal down but it drops to like 400 and barely keeps going once i let go..then after i put it into drive it shakes and sputters and dies. I hear fuel pump but my pump is pretty new too i had it installed 3 months ago and the minor fixes where just for a broken engine manifold bolt which chevy should have a recall on! but i got my mass flow sensor replaced about a month ago and now when i got it back from the shop i hear a whistle the windows are all up all the way..it may be the hoses or the intake ill run a quick check

I wuld check MAF again. I had a silverado that I had to replace 2 brand new MAFs after replacing and finding out they were shot. Idk, worth looking into. Like said, go thru engine bay and look for any loose or disconnected wires and hoses.

I went back to the shop and the dude checked the engine bay he said looks like theres no leaks or anything but when he tried to hook up the code reader thingy idk what its called haha the thing wouldn't display and he checked some fuses and found out that a fuse had blown and might have been causing the idle to drop..it worked so far once he replaced it but im still hearing that damn whistle :emotions122:
