Anybody have any pics of what the grille looks like without the bow tie on it? Any information on removing the bow tie?

No -- because it would take extensive body work to cut out the bowtie backing and remold the center bar to be straight and smooth. The bowtie shape is part of the grille, and remains after you remove the gold bowtie portion from the grille.

As for removing the gold portion to paint it or replace it, it's held on by two 10mm speed nuts and some adhesive. Once removed, you'll be left with two holes in the chrome bowtie surround.
