Hi everyone,

I'm new here... but I figured it would be a good place to ask.

Current situation

I currently own a 2005 Honda CR-V with 114k miles. Nothing wrong with it at all, but it's time for something bigger. I am not in a desperate situation where I need another car ASAP, but I don't fit it in comfortably and would rather not keep it any longer than necessary. I also know that I have some near future repairs coming and it's only a matter of time before I have to dump more money into it that I know i'll never see again.

With that being said, my favorite looking SUV on the road is the latest revision of the Chevy Tahoe.

Initial thoughts/questions

  • Do people consider the LT upgrade worth it over the LS trim?
  • Why are some dealers advertising brand new 2015 LT's for ~$44k, while within 250 miles of Austin, TX... I can barley find a used 2015 LT with 40k miles for under $41k. (4WD not required, see TX)
  • The 2017's are apparently around the corner although I don't see any confirmed dates, how much of an impact do you think their release will have on the 2015s? I was looking to buy used.
  • Anything to look out for when shopping for a used 2015 Chevy Tahoe?

Thanks all,
Ghost

From some posters here, I would stay away from the 2015 and 2015i models due to the buffitting issue on a lot of these models apparently. I personally like the LTZ model, it has the magnetic ride suspension on it. LT and lower have the regular. Google it. Then all the extras that go along with it. Lots to think about, good luck with your search

To me its not worth the extra money for the LT. Its about a $10k difference for leather, Bose, fog lights and automatic lift gate...Im sure there are some other little things I'm missing but not that much money worth. You can turn your LS into an LT for a few thousand. Prices on the tahoes are night and day, I don't get it, but I would play hard ball with the dealer to make sure you get the best deal.

I don't know about the 2017s yet but when they come out the will be blowing out the 2016s. It is weird though that the magic mile number for used tahoes are about 40K. Good luck with your purchase.

The MSRP difference between a base LS and a base LT is $5k I believe.

For that you get a bunch of stuff including auto tailgate, lane departure warnings, collision avoidance, mylink radio (not just Bluetooth) Bose stereo etc. whether that's worth it to you is a personal and financial choice.

Be wary of all 15/16 tahoes in regards to buffetting, booming and vibration at speeds over 75. Test drive THOROUGHLY to save yourself a potential headache (literally) down the road.

That worries me, I have never heard of the headache issue until now. I can understand on the 2015 models, was it not fixed in 2016? Is it fixable at all or something mechanically that cannot be helped?

I am looking at new 2016 Tahoe LS and they are running ~38.5k at the moment. Probably be cheaper in Q4 when the supposed 2017 hit the floor.

I think there are a ton of ~40k mileage 2015 and 2016s around, because they are used as fleet vehicles... soon as they are out of the bumper to bumper warranty they go up for sale.

I haven't heard of any fixes for 2016. GM barely acknowledges the issue.

Here's an article on it:

I've been reading through all the forums and different topics regarding the matter.

Is there a comprehensive google documents somewhere with all the listed vehicles with issues? The data seems to be all over the place.

Both 2015 and 2016? Which trims? All? Not sure. I see a lot of Denali's being recognized as having trouble, and some Tahoes.

Is there a risk to buying any 2015+ GM SUV at the moment? If so, it'll likely force me to another manufacturer.
