OK, I am new. But I have searched for 2 days and can't find the answer I need.

2203 Z71

Can I install a part, alarm, anything so that I can push a button on a remote and have the tailgate/liftgate open?

I just bought the Tahoe and it did not come with a key fob, so instead of just buying that I thought maybe upgrade and be able to open the back with the remote. If this is not possible..

Where is the best place to get a key fob?

Thanks guys and gals!!!

To do that you would need to install a hydraulic lifting system or electronic actuator. Factory gas struts aren't going to lift it with a push of a button. Can totally be done, but would need to fab something up to get it to work. For key fob, check Ebay, or go to a local alarm/audio store n see what they got. If stock, should be easy enough.

Check ebay for least expensive fob. You can find them for less than $30 with free shipping.

Been doing some research,,,
Looks like I can upgrade the lift hydraulics. Make them stronger with a little more pressure in them. The install a trunk opener off a car. Program a button on the remote to accuate the truck catch and the stiffer lifts should open it.
Now to start the trial and error of getting it to work.
It has some costs involved, and some fabrication on my part to mount the accuator, wiring it all and some other stuff,,,
But maybe within a month or 2 Ill have something to report back on.

I just figured that with all the new cars and trucks there has to be a way to make it happen. If you can open a van side door with a remote, should be able to let the liftgate open.

Anyway starting on a project that I have no idea if it will work or not. But I really want to have that option.

absolutely can be done!! But if I were u, I would get actual actuators(not sure if that's what ur talking about), not stiffened up gas struts, even tho could be done just like shaved doors with poppers. Just saying, asking for problems later on. As we all know, regular, or even stiff gas struts will eventually loose pressure later on. We all have either had happen, seen or know someone who has had a rear hatch fall down and hit em in the head!! ouch...

Just a site I found quickly, probably cheaper, better places out there. ;But u would want some sort of linear actuator, hydraulic, electric, something to ensure longevity and support, and made to do what ur wanting. If ur going to fabricate something up, might as well do it right. Hope you start on it tho, be a cool mod.

I think the force needed to close the lift gate with higher pressure struts, would be just as big, if not more, of an inconvenience as the benefit from them pushing the gate open.
It sounds cool, and I don't want to pooh pooh anyone's ideas, but it sounds like a lot of work and money for the simple convenience of automating the gate.

My father and my sister in law both have mini vans with the auto sliding doors, and they are not simple, there is a lot to them and the dealer has worked on both vans numerous times. I can't imagine what those things are going to be like with age, dirt, wear, and no warranty.
