Searching for the next sunset...
I can try to give you a better idea. There is I believe 6 wires going to the tail light harnesses. The wire you are looking for is a brown wire, next to the green one. I tapped into that and then ran a new 18ga wire across the frame/axel cross member in a wire loom, then cut the brown wire at the harness of the passenger side and connected it directly to my newly run 18ga wire from the driver's side. Also other problem areas are the trailer hitch connection (mine was spotless). You can also swap harnesses from your working side to make sure you don't have an issue in the your tail lights harness.
I would go ahead an just replace all your bulbs if youre around 100k. The first thing I've always done when buying previous government/police cars is go through the ENTIRE care and remove stuff that they were too lazy to properly remove. I came out with a Battery Tamer, WigWag Brain and two cords, solar battery charger and a special secret kill switch that prevents the steering column shifter from being shifted out of park (basically they can leave the truck running, with the keys in the ignition and be away from the truck for extended periods.
Anyway I removed about 2 miles of cables (prob 20lbs lol) and a bunch of other mounts and junk left by the FEDS, but I also go through and change all the fluids, bulbs, do a seafoam treatment and in general just "go thru" the entire truck.
Does that help?
