The right PSI

Took my rims off and i bought some goodyear at/s 265 70r17 tires for my stocks...my question is whats the right psi i need to have them at? The tire shop has them at 40psi but when im on the road i get a "check tire pressure" warning...and they go up to 43psi...im traveling about 700 miles straight on friday and i dont want a blowout and bad mpg's. please help! Families well being is at risk

it's should be on your door, but I think it's between 32psi and 38psi

The door placard recommends 32psi, but I like to keep them a little higher at about 35psi. From what I understand, your mpg will actually improve with higher pressure because less of your tire is making contact with the ground, however that also means that your tire won't wear evenly and the life of the tires will be shorter. A week after I got my Tahoe, before I realized the recommended psi was only 32, I drove it 1,000 miles round trip down to the beach at about 40 psi and was getting 20-21mpg (highway).

More psi keeps the rolling resistance lower....... which means better mpg.

The center will wear out faster though.
