I sold the 2006 F150 4x4 5.4 engine and transmission replacement job and this is the list of known components that we are replacing along with the big items. He wants to keep it and freshen it up.

Gonna do all these parts and new from Ford dealer for the engine long block, complete transmission and transmission cooler.

For some stupid reason, the pics loaded out of order.

If you are talking about the FJ Cruiser pics, we had to remove the rack and pinion and the front diff to get the oil pan off.
When I say "get oil pan off", I mean both sections, so that the timing cover could be removed.

The Lexus RX350 made it. Here is a pic of the oil that poured out, on the ground, when started and ran 3 seconds. I think I will be able to pin point the source. DUH!

That guy wants to spend $13,000 plus labor on a 17-year-old truck?

He is going to get $2200 back for the engine and transmission cores. Withe the total labor and all fluids and oil filter and heater hoses to match up and miscellaneous it will all be just under $16k. The truck is in immaculate shape. Is a 4x4 and has owned all but 2 years. Meets his needs, insurance is inexpensive, he just sold travel trailer that he no longer wanted and that money will take care of all but about $1k of the costs. If he bought used, he has no idea of the condition and trucks with 136k miles on them are not cheap in the area. He does not want new.

My Tahoe is in great shape and if it needed an engine or transmission, I would do it too. He does not want to take the chance of the likely damage to the heads caused by the problems this engine has. He wants to get a fresh engine and has the money for the transmission and that 1/2 ton transmission has been towing around a 27 foot travel trailer for a few years. IMO, he is smart, with all the liberal governments out here pushing for the EV vehicles. I think that alone is going to drive prices up on used ICEs.

I was thinking it was a bit of a beater. But I'm probably confusing it with another Ford truck you've mentioned. I get it, though. Mine is only two years newer and I'd replace the engine and/or trans as needed before getting something else. Well, maybe not if I had to pay someone else to do it. But, apples to oranges...
