Well I am still new here and was the proud owner of the beauty picture below, but after a good detail job and a few mods that i did i got an offer that i couldn't refuse. So now I am looking into buying a 2000 and up Tahoe or Yukon. Im going to be looking to spend 5000 and i know that is not alot but maybe i will be able to find something. My question is what should i be looking for mechanically when purchasing one of these trucks? Is there any specific or known issues that I can figure out befor buying? Anything you guys can tell me would be helpful as I am not very familiar with these trucks. And you you guys have any leads on vehicles in the Chicagoland area that would be great. Thanks

I am sorry, ........ and hate to burst your bubble, but what kind of truck 2000 and UP do you think you will be purchasing for 5K?

If you buy a 2000 and UP for 5K, it will either be a truck that has not been taken care of or it will have a million miles on it.

Mine is an '06, and I paid 15K with 86K miles on it.

GOOD LUCK!

3400.00 and an Xbox 360... That Will get you a NBS. Worked for me. Now it has a few issues but it's got some perks and good things on it. Hydraulic brake controller for towing, air ride etc.

Also from my recent experience. Look for bad or dirty injectors, MAF sensor, abs modules going bad, and leaks. Mine had no leaks. It has the other issues.

No your not bursting my bubble and i dont expect a perfect truck for 5k but i do know that there are some out there. I was more or less looking for info on what to look for when going to purchase one of these trucks. I went and looked at a 2000 with 150000 it had about 6 door dings and small dent/damage above 1 wheel well, sunroof leather interior was in good condition but he is stuck at 6000.

If i was you. I would look for another obs. I never had problems like the 04 i have. Biggest difference i see in nbs's is the brakes. Little more comfort in driving, and what i was looking for. A third row seat.
I have had to rebuild front differencial.
Both cats
Radio
Battery
2 sensors in the emssions system
Mas
Tires
Reflash cluster
Intake gaskets w/nock sensors and wiring harness
Brakes are going to need to be done. And a caliper is sticking

Bought it with 116k

Hopefully im done with the ********.

I will say this, it pretty much saved my families and I's life and the old lady yhat pulled out in front of me Christmas morning, my 98 w/33's would never have made it. 45 - 50 mph going down hill coasting a lady decides shes gonna pull out in front of us. I litterally never hit the brakes, i wasnt able to set up the corner, there was no thinking only split second maybe a 3rd of a second time. I cut 90 degrees to the right, (4way intersection) state road with a town road crossing it. It was a serious g out, i think i got on the gas just before it, when the road staightened out i was at 4k rpms I couldnt go into the oncoming lane because there was a a blue car waiting to pull out. Cant even describe the feeling. I missed her by maybe 4 feet. And the blue car by the yellow line. My left tire left rubber on the road from where i initiated the turn to past the apex. For a breaf time there was 4 marks around the apex and after the g out.
I wish i could have had to time to see the look one the persons face in the blue car. They probly turded them selves.

Anyways you get what ya pay for. Sometimes ya get a deal. Good luck
