Thinking of buying a 170k yukon/escalade. DO or DON'T?

I sold my 2005 tahoe a while back and I'm looking for a 07-10 now.

I want to keep the price down so I've been looking at these two different vehicles.

A 2008 loaded escalade with 166K miles. looks like its in real good shape. asking 14500 private party

or

A 2008 Yukon SLT with 160K miles also looks in good shape for 14500 at dealer.

Are these good buys? I hear these trucks can go 300K+ with ease. Or will it nickel and dime me to death?

Opinions???

It all depends on maintenance history and what has or has not been done to them. Do you have any service records for either of them?

My 07 has 165k on it right now and is running better than it ever has but I am meticulous with maintenance. We've owned it for 5+ years and 60k miles and have only had one major issue with it during that time.

I purchased my Denali with 90k last December (thought it was in good shape) and already serviced the following:
  1. Fuel System (Flush & Replacement of the sending unit)
  2. Axle fluid replacement
  3. 4 wheel brake job
  4. O2 Sensors replaced and Throttle body serviced.
  5. Broken engine mount
Your scenario may vary, but just like 07Burb said, its all about previous owner's ability to maintain the vehicle.

08 Escalade will have the 6 spd. 08 Tahoe will not if that factors into your decision at all.

6spd is a lot more expensive to build too.

Of course, my truck was "tired" at 100k so I decided a Whipple was in order. Woke it right up. I have no concerns that anything is going to fail, but also went over everything that possibly could and replaced it.

Add up the price of all fluids, belts, rubber, brakes....and it will total a number you don't want to see, but if the previous owner already took care of that you will be golden.
