Really have only a vague idea what is going on here at this point. Cruising between 65 and 75 mph, in overdrive, 100 degrees, AC on. Engine has 174k miles on it now. In my scan I look out the front, out the back, at the mirrors, etc. And I could swear I saw a bunch of blue smoke (and by a bunch I mean almost on the level of someone blowing an engine on the race track) on a scan out the back (and it could not have come from another car). But it had already stopped doing it by the time I saw the smoke. Then going up the grade it did it once more, and then going over the top it did it once more. Running fine, not check engine light or anything, temps good, oil pressure good, etc. Nothing on fire lol. I stopped at a rest stop about 10 miles up, checked all fluids, everything where it's supposed to be, trans dipstick feels normal temp, no leaks under the car. Even checked alternator output and it's 14.1. Looked at belt and no damage. Felt AC compressor and it's not hotter than the rest of the engine. Drove another 200 miles and did not see the smoke again. Currently still running fine. My one working theory here is a problem with the PCV valve, cannot remember if I've changed it. I did do the intake gaskets but don't remember if I put a new PCV valve in. So it could have 60k miles on it. Or does anybody have any other ideas.

edit: should mention that I did check throttle on/throttle off during one of the smoke episodes. It did not seem to increase or decrease the smoke. The episodes lasted about ten seconds at most.

Lol I must be stressed. Could a mod move this to the obs engine forum? That's where I meant to put it.

No not towing. And yes a mountain pass. Running no more than 3000 Rpms. And the first episode of smoke was on almost flat road. The third was almost no engine load since I had just gotten off the throttle a few seconds earlier. Was going down hill. I even rolled back into the throttle to check if the smoke would stop and it made no difference.

Edit. Elevation probably 4500 or less. It's sb i15 between Las Vegas and baker ca.

It did not recur on the trip home. Since then I replaced the pcv valve and associated rubber pieces. We will see what happens.
