So, I got my 20's put on yesterday and wanted an alignment. Shop tried to get me for hubs and tie rods.....$600 :Frustrated:
I ran out.
How can I check them myself and are they easy to replace?
Thanks

So I drove 2 hours, some traffic and some aggressive highway driving. When I reached my destination I popped of my drivers side center cap and put my hand on the hub. It was warm/hot but I could leave my hand on it comfortable without getting burned. Is this normal or should it have been cool?

Being warm is normal. You would have to check for excessive wear with the wheels off the ground.

Thanks. I also have NO noises that I can hear and aside from the slop in my steering wheel, it rides like a dream. I'll jack it up and test for play.

I went to a very reputable shop and they told me my bearing were too worn to hold a proper alignment. They quoted about $750 for the repairs and alignment. I bought Timkens off eBay for $230 a pair and installed them in about 2 hours. The old ones had no markings so I'm unsure if they are originals. One had a noticeable layer of fresh grease on the exterior. Over time this one may have had a complete failure due to lack of lubrication but at the time of removal both were smooth and quiet.

You can check for play in the wheel bearing by getting the front end off the ground. Push on the top of the tires. There should be some play, but not a lot. I had to replace both of mine on my 01 rcsb.

Well they are def worn. Went for an oil change and got a price. $1050 for Timkens installed lol. I just ordered 2 Timkens for $220. I'll learn how to do it myself.

you shouldnt have to much trouble installing new bearings just make sure everything gets torqued down correctly it mite be a little different on a SUV but ive large diesel rigs
and there was spacific way to torque down the hubs correctly

Wow must be hub bearing season. I had the same issue. I went for an alignment. They said cant do because of bad bearing. Only one side had play. I had them do the one and my alignment...$500. Coulda done myself but I didnt feel like going back for the alignment and losing another 3 hours of my life. Plus I'm going on a roadtrip Friday so not much free time before then.

I'll get the left 1 and repalce myself on my next 7day stretch off from work.
