I am looking for tires for my father who has a 2001 Silverado with 20" rims, he is looking at the Blizzak's DM1 (275-60-20). What other size tires can he put on these rims w/o ANY "issues". It seems this size is slightly limted to what he can go with. Luckily the Blizzak does fit but I would rather he go with something like my Revo AT2's! Seems most tires in this size are crossover/suv type tires. IMO you do not need dedicated snows for NYC if you have 4wd.

Any suggestions?

It really depends on how deep you get into snow and for how long out of the year. IN my opinion if you have to dig snow three months out of the year then you need winter tires. revo 2's are good for summer and transition months when use in snowable climates.

If it had 265 on on 4x4 these are the up-sizes available.

I have Scorpion ATR 275/55/20's and I like them, but I dont live in snow covered areas, so I cant comment on that.

Try tirerack.com and check the reviews and surveys

Yup tire rack is my friend! My go to source for reviews and surveys! lol

The Scorpion ATR is best tire for summer climates, actually rated much higher then my Revo AT2!

So 275/55/20 and 285/50/20's will fit ?

I just found out that this is a V6! I had no friggen clue! This wouldnt be my first choice to plow snow.........Anyway it is what it is.

So knowing this I dont think he should go with such a tall taller, its gonna bog it down especially when plowing. So what would be the optimum size tire?

look in to summer rated Bridgstones or Potenza if they are available. The revo 2 is an all season.

Why would I want that? I am trying to steer him away from a dedicated snow to something more like a Revo 2 or Michellin AT2 not something summer only.......

Tire height always helps, but for snow I would say that the width is a more important element. I would say stick with the same size tire, but get a really good all season, or even M+S tire.

I question plowing with a V6 though....

Me too! But like I said it is what it is! lol Not gonna argue with the old man and to be honest all he plows here in the city is a few short driveways, small parking lots but the only thing im concerned with is our private road upstate, cause this thing is hairy! There have been times over the years that we have gone up there and had to turn around and come home cause no one plowed the road. You could definetely not plow uphill unless you had something with tracks but then again the V6 should have no issues plowing downhill! lol

He originally mentioned he wanted only 2 Blizzaks but imo he is better off with 4 Firestone Destination At's for a few bucks more........

Yeah, I would go with the firestones too.

I got to talk to him......Snow tires wear very quickly on dry pavement correct? Even in the worst conditions highways and streets are never covered with snow for more then 24hours.......Imagine driving him driving from his house in the city 200 miles upsate (one way)! These Blizzaks will be shot in one season!

Rite now he has Goodyear GT2's which IMO suck on dry pavement nevermind snow or ice. All he needs is a good all terrain tire and he will be more then happy.
