I have a 2005 Sand Beige Metallic Yukon SLT w/ 96,000 miles. I've had it for 4 years and it has been a fantastic truck. I'm starting to get a little antsy because i don't usually keep vehicles longer than 4-5 years. However, I don't have the heart to give up the 4WD and the cargo capabilities. I would like to start doing some things to make it a little more "cool" or attractive. I would like to put an exhaust on it. Maybe paint it. Upgrade the stereo. Get some wheels. Whatever i can do. My bf thinks it has too many miles on it to bother but my mechanic said if I take care of it I could get another 100,000 miles out of it. I need some guidance. Also, If I change the wheels will it ruin or seriously diminish it's 4WD capabilities? I'm not off-roading or anything. Frankly, i've only used the 4WD about 5 times in the last 4 years and that was only to get out of parking spaces. I just like the idea of having it "just in case." Anyone have any thoughts to offer. Seeing the pics of them lowered (don't know the proper term) gives me serious inspiration.

New wheels won't hurt your 4x4 as long as you get some decent tires. Some members like to color match various parts like side view mirrors, handles, bumpers, rear vent caps, etc. Exhaust is always a cool mod. There is and endless list of mods here on the forum. Btw, if cared for, your truck should last another 100 k easy.

96K is barely broken in......if regular maintenance is done you have a long time to go with it....I say mod on and keep it ;)

I say mod it also. I had mine for 5 years before I even started and still kept the 4wd. To me it's very rewarding just to see the changes you do. There are so many little detail items you can do that make it so much nicer. I like mine more now than when I bought it and don't even wanna think of having to part with it.

Mod it it will be fine just make sure you do regular maintenance on it. What about say a small level lift and bigger wheels with a more aggressive tire? Or a 2/3 spindle drop with better wheels and tires? Color match, grill inserts, custom headlights and parking lights , HIDs lights , LED tail lights? Cold air intake, exhaust , You can swap the factory 8" sub out with a Kicker 8" sub ( it will fit in the factory box and work off the factory Bose amp), a double den radio , new door speakers,

If you love it, why get rid of it?

You know exactly what you got and you will not need to get used to a new to you vehicle. Keep it, 96k is nothing for these trucks.

Go for it! FYI--once you start you will be addicted!

This just gave me some more ideas...I never knew about the subwoofer swap. Hmmmm....
