It seems that when I run the heat in my 02, I have to keep it way to the cool side when it is at operating temp. Maybe 1/4 to 1/3 from full cold. I can't get it comfortable- its too cold in one spot and if I turn it up just one "click" hotter on the dial (just a few degrees rotation, you feel one gentle "click" on the dial), its too hot. Seems to be way too sensitive. Is this a symptom of a failing mix/blend actuator? I didn't have this problem with the AC but being in NC maybe I just had it cranked the entire time.... Its not a major problem but really annoying on a long drive. I've about worked out all the major problems on the truck and am now tackling the annoying ones!

Hmmm... this problem is slightly different than other blend door actuator problems that I've heard of. Usually it stays hot or cold no matter where the dial is. Anyways, it could be a bad actuator or maybe it needs to be recalibrated. The thing is, I believe there's more than one actuator and I'm not sure which one is causing your problem. I would remove the cover under the glove box and move the heat knob back and forth to see which one is malfunctioning. Sounds like the bad actuator is moving either all the way open or all the way closed. Here's a how to that might help you and also includes directions for recalibrating.

Ugh, sounds too complicated to piss around with- its not enough of an annoyance to me yet. I had to R&R the blower motor a little while ago and it was no fun with the lousy access and that is probably easy compared to messing with the actuators. I might be selling the truck for a newer one anyway so maybe I'll live with it for now. Thanks!
