Too Soon For Synthetic?

Been running Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for the last 15 years. My Yukon XL got changed at 500 miles and never had anything else since. I go a minimum of 10,000 miles between changes and have never had a problem with any of my vehicles using oil or leaking oil. As far as the oil monitor goes I don't trust it and as far as synthetic goes it waste oil trying to get you to change before it is actually necessary. There are also several good threads in the forum about this subject as well.

I'm probably a little old fashioned in that I learned that synthetic oil lubricates too well to allow new engine components to wear in properly during break-in. So I run regular oil for a bit before going synthetic. I also change the oil the first time sooner on a new engine in case it has more fine particles in it from the engine wearing in. I like to get it out of there sooner. That may be old fashioned thinking as well.

You could say that if it is good enough for the OEMs in starting a new engine out with synthetic then it should be good enough for anyone. Although, I'm not so sure they are concerned about the high milage wear characteristics of that engine as the owner is. I would think that putting synthetic in a new car has as much to do with marketing and fuel economy as anything else from their perspective.

I love these "I'm going to believe some rumor I heard from cousin Clem instead of relying on professional engineers with all kinds of college degrees, hundreds of years of combined experience and tens of thousands of hours of testing" threads.

You really think they use synthetic as an advertising gimmick? They have very expensive warranties they have to honor.

I learned it at my trade school before I became ASE certified.

I believe what I believe and you are free to believe otherwise and everyone else can absorb the info and form their own feelings on the subject.
