Anyone have recommendations on a good torch that won't break the bank? Something small for DIY/recreational use (read non-professional) that will heat stubborn bolts to cherry but can be stored for periods of time during non-use. I don't really have a need for a Oxy/Act setup and can't see spending that kind of money. Cost and portability are high factors.

General usage would be: Exhaust bolts, thin metal bending, random truck bolts: small engine repairs, killing small insects, man-sized Creme Brulee!

Any suggestions, recommendations, discussions are welcomed.

Thanks,
MWNT

MAPP gas. Substantially hotter than propane, cheap and readily available at any hardware store, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

get a coleman little camper cylinder thing and attach a little torch end to it, about 15 bucks in the end and shit you can use it whenever, even for road trips.

if you want one thats hotter than propane, get either mapp gas or one of the "welding/cutting" kits that use the mini tanks, should be able to find them at most hardware stores for $30-$40. runs on mapp and oxygen.

plan on picking one up at some point in the near future.

If you have a harbor freight near you, they sell a portable set that isn't bad at $279 complete with gas and 02 tanks. They sell the small tank refills, as well. Good if you don't want or need the giant tanks of a standard set. Plus the portable part is REALLY handy sometimes...

Never buy anything from Harbor Freight! If you want to throw your money away, PM me for my address. Get a Victor like hOtROd suggested. The little propane p.o.s. isn't hot enough for much.
