I am tired of the cylinder deactivation on my 14 Tahoe and was going to buy the Range unit, but thought I would query the brain trust here first.

If I use the Tow/Haul mode all the time will it deactivate the AFM function?

My 09 does not have AFM since it is a 6.2 which I really like.. but I use the 14 as a daily driver so want to make it quit going into AFM without a reprogram since I have a 100,000 mile extended warranty.

Any input or advice appreciated.. And I do not care if I get less fuel economy just am tired of the 4 cyl mode..

No. but you can get it tuned to have it totally disabled. Or you can google ATM range device. Plugs into your obd2 and disables the Afm feature

I know that I have those options as I said in my original post.

However, I cannot have the vehicle tuned as it will void the Extended GMPP warranty, and I wanted to see if I could find a more cost effective way to accomplish the same thing by leaving it in T/H mode all the time but if not, I will spend the 185 bucks for the Range unit.

I have everything I can do to the 09 L9H 6.2, tune, intake, exhaust etc. without going into the engine, but it has no warranty to worry about..

Anyway, thanks for the input,

is AFM the reason why my truck hesitates from a dead stop, when I try to get out into traffic fast?

I am not sure if that is the cause, but the AFM does contribute to enough other unwanted actions within the engine that I decided to find a way to disable it without having it tuned out on a vehicle that is under GM warranty.

So I tried on both my 2014 Tahoe & 2007 Sierra and both will go into V4 mode while using the Tow/Haul button.

After I conducted my experiment, I purchased the Range AFM Device, plugged it in and no more AFM.

I do like the fact that it leaves no trace of a mod on the ECM, and I can move it from one vehicle to the other so this allows me to use it in the 14 Tahoe daily driver & the 07 Sierra tow vehicle.

I would suggest to buy it from Range directly as you are then insured to get the most current software and they just had an upgrade to deal with the Device causing a false code to flash. When I called them, they said that they have no distributors that sell on ebay and there are several look-alike products on the market. They discounted the product 10% and paid the freight. Had it in 3 days.

I am currently running a MPG comparison with the Device plugged in vs. the stock. I will post the results after this week of driving.

Get a super chip programmer if your worried about the warrant. You can either carry around the disclaimer and hope that the service writer is not a di^# and will abide by the disclaimer that super chips has put out or you can just remove the program from the truck when you take it for service.

Super chip along with diablo tuners are the same, plus they will disable the AFM as well.

depends on what you call a hesitation, could be something else going on. The AFM does make the trucks shudder some, not all but some of them. When mine is in low gear it shutters and so when driving around town stop light to stop light I usually run with the tow button on. Gets rid of the AFM issue and helps save on fuel some not going in and out of high gear. I guess you can call it a hesitation/shutter when the AFM is kickin in. Also all new vehicles from around 2000s and up have a pretty good lag in the foot to fuel to power at the wheels. Its very annoying and getting a tune or programmer will fix that issue as well.

Hesitation as in when I punch the gas, the truck doesn't really respond right off. Kinda like the feeling when the traction control kicks in. Maybe if I drive with the tow button on and the traction control off, Id get the response Im looking for lol
