I've purchased 5 new TPMS sensors and my 2006 Tahoe only wants to talk to 3 of them. These new sensors are installed in Tahoe LTZ wheels. The strange part is that the scan tool read both of the 'bad' sensors when they weren't mounted in the tires. The first order contained 4 of the same part number, only 2 worked were readable with Discount Tire's scan tool and NTB was able to read the 3rd one. I ordered a replacement for the one that neither scan tool would read.

Here's the scoop from today's failure at NTB...this is all on 1 wheel:

Scan tool read the new sensor(uninstalled) right out of the box.
Scan tool read the new sensor that was removed from the wheel.
Scan tool will not read the whatever sensor is installed in the wheel.
Scan tool will read uninstalled sensor when the Tahoe is not in relarn mode.
Scan tool will not read either sensor when the Tahoe is in relearn mode.
Air pressure method was tried, again only 3 of the 4 sensors relearned.
Removed problematic left rear wheel and rolled up next to the left front wheel(weak reception maybe?), tried relearn again, no change in symptoms.
Changed the order of relearning the problematic wheel from last to first, no change in symptoms.
I left NTB, returned home, rolled one of my factory wheels up next to Tahoe, tried air pressure method.....I only got same 3 wheels to honk, but it seemed difficult to be successful with this method. It took several attempts to get it to respond, so I haven't ruled out trying this again with one of my factory wheels. I only had one sensor flaking out in my factory wheels and it would read about 75% of the time(Left Front was intermittent). The left rear seems to be the problem with the new wheels, but we tried to learn it as the left front and still had no luck.

This is crazy. Has anybody got any suggestions? Does anybody actually KNOW how the TPMS works. The best I could find is that it is likely the same antenna/receiver as the keyless entry. The keyless entry is working just fine. I've considered pulling the fuse to try to 'reboot' the receiver. Insanity.

Crickets. No suggestions?

I ordered an OEM TPMS sensor to try.

Finally, after ordering 6 TPMS sensors, I have 4 working. The last order was an OEM sensor from AC Delco purchased on Amazon. No more "Service Tire Monitor" message!

3 of the sensors are Orange Electronics and 1 is AC Delco. I'm not sure if Orange Electronics makes a quality product and maybe the seller I purchased from just had a bad batch....I would not recommend them though.

As updated in the other thread...

UPDATE:

2 of the 3 remaining Orange Electronics sensors failed. I said eff it, ordered 3 AC Delco sensors from Amazon this week. The last AC Delco I received from Amazon worked with no issues....so I'm hoping for the same for these 3. After I get these 3 installed, I'll have 4 OEM sensors and hopefully no message on the DIC.

IMO, Orange Electronics sensors are trash. I've had 5 or 6 of them installed now....I lost count??....and all but 1 have failed or not even worked out of the sealed box they arrived in. Go OEM, even if it's more expensive up front.

Why go through all this trouble just to get rid of the DIC Message?

How many times have you taken the tire of the rim to change these stupid sensor that are no good for anything anyhow? And the cost of the sensors?

I check my pressures regularly and I just click the message off with the steering wheels control buttons.

Problem solved for zero dollars.

To each their own....I prefer not to have the warning message and you prefer to dismiss it. The thread was to inform others about the quality problems associated with this brand of TPMS sensor, not so much to get tips on a method (hitting a button on the steering wheel) that I'm already very familiar with. Thank you for your feedback, but I'm not quite sure what you're trying to accomplish.

Correct, to each their own.

I was not trying to accomplish anything, I was just wondering why anyone would go through all this trouble and take a tire of the rim several times in order to fix something which in my opinion does not serve a purpose. And the sensors will eventually go bad again and then you will go through all this trouble again, just so you do not need to look at a message on the display center.

So again, not trying to accomplish anything, was simply curious. As you said, to each their own and I hope you will have long lasting sensors.
