I have a 2010 Tahoe, obviously with the TPMS installed.

I'm looking to purchase a used set of OEM wheels from a pre-2007 Chevy truck (does not have TPMS) and mount a 2nd set of mud tires to run only during hunting season.

Does the TREAD act require TPMS based on the year of the vehicle or the manufacture year of the wheels?

If I took just the wheels to have tires installed, would I be required to put TPMS on the wheels?

What will my on-board computer do if it does not detect TPMS?

Thanks!

Not sure if you have to have tpms to abide by the law ... and I've yet to se a leo doing tpms checks. :)

But you will have the tire sensor error displayed on the dic every time you're in the truck.

Bradley, I don't think you'll have to worry about LEO's, I'm one and have never heard of anyone doing anything like that "yet" LOL, but recently I've been dealing with switching tires/wheels and the tech was very adamant about making sure the TPSM stuff was dealt with. He stated a law issue, so sure it's in the shop not the road that you'll deal with it. Serge is def right, that light flashing everytime you get in will suck...

Just get the tire shop to put in the tpms sensors. They are really cheap on ebay..like $20 each. Having the dash error come up everyday will get annoying.

I've had a set of wheels without the sensors so it's definitely not needed BUT it got extremely aggravating seeing it on the DIC daily.

No laws yet. All vehicles manufactured for sales in the US are required to have tpms. This started 06/2008 or 2009 early models. There are now laws about a person disabling their own system, but if a tire company did they could get into some heat.
