How big of a pain is it to install a brake controller?

Looking to tow about a 5,000 lb truck and a trailer. I'd like to have brakes with this load, help is appreciated

BTW, I don't where where you live, but , the state laws require trailer brakes on anything over a certain gross weight. each state has its own limits. Most states are in the 3000 to 5000 range. Some are more, some are less. Here's a link to AAA that will give you each state's requirements.

Towing 5000 lbs, you really do want to get trailer brakes.

gm specifies 2000lbs at which trailer brakes are required.
