Some lowering kits include these and some don't. Are they necessary and if they are what do they help/prevent?

I've been looking at both the belltech 4/5 kit and the calmax/djm 3/4 kit and I'm not sure which way to go. Ideally I want a 3/4 drop to keep some rake and I know the belltech is adjustable to create a 3/4 drop. I am planning on running 295/35/24.

Djm makes it seem like control arms is the only way to go, but it seems like spindles w/ struts are more popular on here.
